Big Reservations Made Easy

The White House

The White House Reservations

For most people, the only way to book a tour of the White House is by submitting a request through your House Representative or your Senator. You can skip this if you know someone in the White House and can arrange a private tour. Contact your House Representative or Senator to request a tour. The tour request must be made within at least 21 days to a maximum of 90 days before your tour date.

The Capitol Reservations

You can book your capitol tour yourself by clicking here. However, during fall and winter, you may tour the Capitol without making any reservations. During spring and summer when it gets very busy you may need help from your congressman or senator. Visiting the visitor center doesn’t require a reservation. Requesting your congressman or your senator for a private tour of the capitol is not a bad idea either.

The Supreme Court Reservations

The Supreme Court building is open to everyone from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s closed on weekends and federal holidays. Oh, and on days when there’s a court hearing, general admission to the building is prohibited. But here’s a cool thing: all the oral arguments are open to the public. Just remember, seats are limited and it’s all about who gets there first.

Check the Court’s daily schedule here. If you want to attend a reservation-free courtroom lecture, click here.

Washington Monument Reservations

Same-Day Walk-Up Tickets: Head over to the Washington Monument Lodge on 15th Street (between Madison and Jefferson drives). They open at 8:45 a.m. and give out free, timed tickets for the same day. It’s first-come, first-served, and one person can grab up to six tickets. You can even pick your preferred time to visit. Remember, everyone over 2 years old needs a ticket to get in. Here’s a tip: during the busy season, these tickets go fast, so you might find quite a line before the window even opens.

Online Advance Tickets: There are two ways to get these:

  1. 30-Day Advance Reservations: You can book your tickets online up to a month ahead. New tickets are released daily at 10 a.m. for the day 30 days later.

  2. 24-Hour Advance Reservations: Each day at 10 a.m., a limited number of tickets are released online for the next day (so on March 11, you can get tickets for March 12). Make sure you’re ready and logged in at 10:00 am.  A few minutes delay is often too late. You have to sign up to book online.
